I want to share a story with you. It is the story of a place. It may sound familiar but it is not wholly something you already know. This is the story of a place I will call Westport. Westport is a town on the northeast shore of Ramsey Island. I will talk more about that later. There are many stories in Westport -- some of them are sad, some of them are funny. Most are ordinary. Yet, they all have about them a sense of mystery. The mystery of life. Sometimes the mystery of death. The mystery of the woods. The woods surrounding Westport.
To introduce this story, let me say it encompasses the All -- it is becoming, though few would know that meaning. The story of Westport, its mystery, radiates beyond the island of its locality. That is how I am able to share it with you, though you could know it for yourself. Stories now are told too quickly, if at all. Let me walk with you through Westport, its woods, along its shores. Together we will remember what is it to read a place, to wait and by looking know.
With many stories are many voices. With the story of a particular place, a chorus. The story of Westport and its island is the story of many. We will begin with one.
